Does anyone know??

If you can get income support whilst on maternity leave? For the time being I'm going to still be employeed and claiming Mat Pay but I'm going to need help financially and also then I can get the sure start grant too.

But I don't know where I stand as to whether I have to give my notice and leave work before I can claim income support. I'm really confused and in a rut!!

I'm worrying about the whole finance thing myself and figured the only thing I can do is get myself down the Jobcentre (cuz apparently they deal with all benefits now?!) and just ask what we would be entitled to?!

Tabs, I had been told to do this or phone the CAB but I've also been told that they won't just tell you what you're entitled to you're better off knowing what you're entitled to and asking for it otherwise something will probably be missed out. So I'm not sure what to do......

If you're getting Mat Pay (SMP) or Mat Allowance you won't be entitled to Income Support I'm afraid. Its also £60.?? per week and whatever you have coming in is deducted off this. Once your baby is born, if you qualify for the higher rate of Child Tax Credit (dunno the amount) you could still qualify for your Mat Grant.

Dependant on your housing situation you may still get some housing and council tax benefit. Again that will take into account all monies coming into the household. (Sorry, don't know if you are single or with a partner, but either way you could still apply)

Hope that helps some
