She is very jealous, she was only asking me yesterday if i see my mum everyday, i just said yes. She is very close to her son, my OH, to the point of being possessive. I think she would like it to just be her, my OH and my baby to be honest!

I don't want to upset OH by falling out with her so i will just have to do as someone said and play her at her own game if she starts being too overpowering. She can see her grandchild whenever, i have no problem with that, i just dont want her going off to stay with different people for the day/night, she's not a toy that can be borrowed out!

Thanks for all the advice x

My MiL mentioned recently that she would look after our LO so that we could go on holiday on our own - I thought what a bizarre thing to offer to do! Like I´m going to go away on holiday without my child!!!

I think the best thing to do with MiL´s is to stand your ground and not back down. I´m just grateful that mine is a 4 hour drive away!

I wish my MIL would step back as well, she's not as bad as yours, doesn't talk about me leaving the baby with her during the day/overnight but she's always telling me things I already know............like I shouldn't leave her unattended in the bathtub and need to wash all of her clothes before I put them on her.........I know I'm a new parent but do I really need to be told those things??

You are going to have to be blunt with her & nip it in the bud now she has no right to make you feel like this and it will only get worse when LO is here. I would ask your OH to have a firm word with her & make it clear its YOUR baby & things will be done how you want them to be done & no other way!!

oh thats too right ha ha. it is war. look, i have also realised that I may need my MIL so be false and smart - beat her at her own game (its easier than it looks actually). Hey, i am even throwing her a party for her birthday next week and on the odd occassion i say "love ya...." and then complete the sentence in my head "....to go put more cream on your wrinkles - yes you are old, stop competing with me!!!"

ha ha but i try be more respectfull. its also important to realise she's my hubby's mother and for that I am gratefull to her......so she can have quality time with her grandkiddies when they get here - but on my terms!!!!

Oh, she is way too possessive. And sounds so controlling. Does your OH support you?
