I got married in Germany with a hell of a lot of legal red tape. The actual wedding was very cheap. The photographer was 400Euro. But the courts, translators, document translations, interviews. came to a whopping 2k on it's own. Just thank god I wasn't married before-woulda been more.

I was married in March of 2007. We called in alot of favors from friends and bussiness contacts. We were married on the water at a yacht club. We had the place for 12 hours. With are honeymoon and wedding for 100 guest, it was about 4,000. The way to do it is this. Ask your mom to spread the word to your family, that instead of a gift, if they would like to gift you say the bar, cake, dj, flowers etc. That was how we kept the cost low, my open bar was gifted to us by my mom's best friend. Also instead of doing my flowers through a florist, I used a grocery store. Instead of renting my silverwear, which can really make your cost become high, We bought them at a store here called Sam's Club. We got all the silverwear for 49 dollars. A great place to talk to people about idea's etc is this forum I used to plan my wedding.
www.weddingannouncer.com . Oh yeah and make your own center pieaces. I bought all my supplys at a craft store and each one only cost me $5 dollars

I had an original budget of £3,000 but ended up spending £10,000, it's amazing how much all the little extra's cost.
That said, my friend did all her wedding and reception for about £500!!!!!
so really it's up to you how much you want to spend.
Congratulations on your engagement xxxxxxx
