Income Support Question

Obviously I'll be going on maternity leave soon and I'm going to end up loosing about £500 a month.

I thought about handing in my notice and claiming income support but have since decided it may be better to come back part time so will technically still be employed but I am unsure if I can still claim income support whilst employeed. (does that make sense).

Or should I just hand in my notice after I've been on mat leave for a month and look for another part time job when it comes to it, if I can afford to.

Oh that was another question (sorry) if you're claiming income support and you go to work for less than 16 hours a week do they take what you earn away from your income support money?

Would this also affect my Housing and Council Tax Benefits?

Sorry about all the questions I'm just trying to figure out what is my best course of action to get the most money possible as I'm doing this all on my own.

Thanks girls.

xx

I think you can work a certain number of hours a week and still claim income support but I can't remember how many it is. I think the amount you earn does also affect how muh you'll get in income aupport. Also I think as long as you're on income support you are entiled to housing and council tax benefit.

The best thing to do would be to phone them on 0800 055 6688 & they're normally really helpful and will be able to tell you exactly what you can get. It does take them a while to answer the phone though!!
