just wondering if any of you can help.

ive filled in the form for the sure start maternity grant but i cannot get income support as hubby works so the next thing to apply for is child tax credit to get the sure start maternity grant.

but what is child tax credit and who can apply?

im guessing that i cant apply for child tax credit until baby gets here so do/will miss out on the sure start maternity grant?

I am not sure but i think anyone can apply for child tax credits (as long as you have children of course, not sure about when your pregnant???) but you might also be able to claim working tax credit, me and my husband do as i am not working and he is on low wage.

You really need to ring and ask if you are entitled and what to do to claim the maternity grant, i know it will comes in handy.

I dont know weather this is any help.

we cant claim working tax credit as you have to be 25 and over,i think.

i have read that you should apply for the sure start maternity grant even if you cannot claim for child tax credit until after baby is born.

but will they pay you the sure start grant before or after baby is born.

how much is child tax credit?
my da said i need to be careful when i claim for child tax credit as when he was getting it they over paid him and then he owed them what they over paid him.(if you know what i mean)

You dont have to be over 25 to get working tax credit.. i am 18 and my partner is 23 and we get it. To be honest,my partner is on low wages we get child tax credit too, we wasnt eligible for the maternity grant. We get paid tax credit something like 60pound a week. (i think). that goes into my bank. And my partner gets 60pound working tax credit a week which goes into his bank.... Does that make sence??
Im not sure about the grant because like i said we wasnt accepted even though we was on tax credits..... you cant claim tax credits till baby is here so if your going about it that way youd have to wait till your gettin tax credits before sending off for the grant. (you have 3 months after bubs is born).

i was told you may get refused the grant if your working tax credit is higher than the family element of tax credit, once your baby is born te family element will prob be higher so they told me to reapply after baby is born...worth a go??

you cant get working tax under the age of 25 till you have a child, although youre pregnant you can only add the baby to your claim once its born if you get what i mean.if you or your OH/DH is disabled i think you can claim though as long as you work over 30 hrs a week.
once the baby is born you claim for both working tax and child tax credits, if you get the higher component you can apply for the sure start maternity grant i think you can get that up to 3months after the baby is born.
my advice to you is to have all your forms filled out ready then the min baby is born add the name and date of birth to the claim forms of your baby and send them off.
you can send for child benefit and tax credits at the same time you will just have to provide tax credits with you child benefit number as soon as you have it. once you have your award form through from tax credits apply for the sure start maternity grant.
