I can’t remember if I posted this when it originally happened. But Im posting again anyway, because Im really bloody angry.
I got a letter at the beginning of March saying the my current account was credited incorrectly with £130 on the 15th December, and these funds would be removed on the 19th March. I immediately rang them and said could I have a copy of my statement, and was there an option of paying this back in installements, because unfortunately I don’t have £150 just lying around doing nothing. The man on the phone I spoke to about it was very rude, I asked for his name and he refused to give me it, and when I asked to speak to his manager he eventually said ‘Ok, we’ll increase you’re overdraft temporarily and reduce it by £50 a month until the balance is cleared. My statement would be in the post.
The 19th came and went, my money went out and I hadn’t received a statement.
I went into my branch and asked if I could have another sent out because I assumed the other one had been lost in the post. The man I spoke to said yes, but there is a £5 charge for copy statements. I was charged twice for the statements, even though the first person I spoke to on the phone hadn’t told me about this charge.
I never received either anyway. Fortunately yesterday I was going through some filing and found my quarterly statements that had been sent out to my house. I looked at December – guess what? NO funds had been credited to my account apart from my salary. Checked January – nothing. Checked November – Nothing.
So I rang Barclays this morning and spoke to the stupidest woman in the world who went on to tell me ‘Oh no, we wouldn’t just take that amount of money out of your account for no reason’.
Why don’t I believe that?
Anyway, Im meant to go into my branch to sort it out because she can’t view my account details before Feb 08.
I don’t have £150 to throw away. Im going on maternity leave! Im loosing £500 of my salary a month by doing so!
hope u get it sorted hun. GO in the branch and don't leave until u get it sorted and make sure u speak to a manager if the person u speak to is fobbing u off.
I hope so! I completely exaggerated on the phone lol I was like 'Im having a baby in 2 weeks time and your stupid error has meant I haven't been able to buy a car seat for him. how do you feel about that?' lol.
Im not usually rude on the phone, I think my hormones took over haha.
I used to work for barclays/woolwich and to say they cant see your account prior to feb 08 is a blatant lie!!!! they can see the last 12 months....I would go in and ask for an appt with the manager, however, i would ring in advance or go in not expecting to see the manager there and then as they do have lots of meetings etc to go to and arent always available, If yo get no where then I would ask to speak to the BDM (the branch development manager) and about the their complaints procedure....
Also as customers we are able to see all correspondance relating to our accounts which includes any phone conversations, letters etc it al has to be documented on their system to "prove" certain rules and systems have been followed...
Ive got the next two days off work so Im going to try and get something sorted. I need the money back pretty quickly though, and I can see this taking forever
I will threaten to close it, problem is, I dont think I can. I cant get another bank account because I don't have a birtyh certificate, passport or driving license lol. I hope they don't just close it
