Question

Single mums?

How do you afford to live? I've told Rich to stop speaking to me untill he's grown up and in light of my current situation I'm pretty sure I'm going to be on my own (even if only for a short while). I've been working out numbers and all sorts and how do they expect people to bring up a child with no money?

I feel so down today.

I don't know what resources are available in the UK but I am sure others on here would know.

I just want to give you a hug....sounds like you are going through a rough time!

I know several woman who have bought a child up on their own. It isnt easy, but it is possible. The best place to start is the job center online and they will (eventually) point you to the right place for the benefits you will be entitled to, whether you are working or not. You can get benefits for nearly everything from housing, tax, food for your baby, maternity etc.

Good luck

Oh,I'm sorry...

Well,I'm gonna do it on my own. With the help of the baby's dad but the little one will be living with me and I'll take care if it.
I have my own apartmant,I have a job, well I am finacially pretty secure so it's not a worry for me...

But,I know you get a lot of benefits,housing,food,tax...There is a lot of help out there.I'm sure than if you do some research you'll find that there are a lot of people willing to help.

And P.S. You should ask Rich for child support. That's the least he can do..

He will give me some money, I'm not worried about that atall. It still doesn't seem enough though. Maybe I'm too used to getting everything I want. My mums a single parent but she got ALOT of help from my nan and grandad. We never wanted for anything. Just seems impossible going at it alone. Guess as it gets closer I get more worried.

There is quite a lot that you are entitled to. You can get a council house or flat and have your rent and council tax paid for you. You'll have the highest rate of income support and your child benefit. I'm sure there is more but I just can't remember right now. Obviously you should also get maintanance payments.

My mum brought 2 of us up alone, it will definitely be hard but you will cope (because you have to). I think you'll get income support, housing benefit and child tax credits, oh and child benefit. Not sure what else you're entitled to, but im sure someone here can help you more.

Just to add, any child maintenance (apart from a tenner) you get will be taken off your income support, so its possibly better to go through the CSA. You have to do this when you claim Income support anyway or you get a 30% reduction on your benefit.

Hope that helps a bit
