Childcare

Hi all,

Just a quick question for you all!! My DH & I have been TTC since new year & although we're not worrying about it yet one thing we have been discussing is childcare.

Neither of us could afford to give up work but after looking at the costs of nurseries etc we realised that we couldnt afford childcare either!! So we'd kinda decided to just WTT.

Then I was at my mums yesterday & I was telling her all about it & she said, deadly serious, I'd have it. Shes doing catalogue distributing at the mo & although it pays ok she has been looking for a part time job for more regular income. I asked her if she really was serious & she said she was.

I said that we would obviously pay her something & she agreed that, that would be good. Me & OH have been talking about it but the question I want to ask is, how much is a good amount to pay her?

We were thinking about £15 a day which works out as £75 a week. This may not sound much for full time but we really couldnt afford much more!! Do you think this is resonable?!

Thanks for reading my lllooonngg post!!

Kayleigh x

Hi Kayleigh

My mum is going to be having our baby when i go back to work and we are giving her £100 a week. She works part time but is going to reduce her hours and she will loose about £100 wages which is how we came up with that figure.

Plus she is going to get the pleasure of spending lots of time with her grandchild so she is more than happy with the arrangement.

I hope things work out and good luck

We are putting out baby into a nursery from when he's 6 months old, as me partner and I can' afford to give up work. This will be costing...

Wait for it...

£725 a month.

£100 MORE than the rent we pay on our house.

It is absolutely horrendous, but we could really use the £3-400 I earn extra a month.

Apparently in our area, childcare prices range from £2.50 to £7 an hour, so I don't think £75 a week is too unreasonable at all, and it would definately be a massive help to us if someone was offering us childcare at that price! If it was me though, I would provide nappies and milk, just out of politeness. But of course that just depends on what you and your mums agreement is

Hope it works out for you! I have to say, I did get an awful shock when I found out about nursery prices.

That sounds fine to me. My mum has said she will have callum when i go back to work which i am so thankful for as childcare is a big expense we could do without.

In our area a childminder costs from £2.50 - £3.50 an hour which doesnt sound too bad but when you work it out over a week it is quite expensive!!

I guess the questions to be answered are how much your mom makes now? Would she be losing to much money this way? Or would she still be able to make it month to month? The amount sounds fine to me (and as a bonus she gets to spend her days watching her grandchild!)

Thanks guys!! You've all made me feel so much happier about this, & I think that what we would offer is a good amount. I would, of course provide nappies, bottles & any extras!!

She isnt actually earning anything at the moment. She earns what she makes on orders, which varies each week from nothing to £200. The idea is that she could still do this & have her grandchild at the same time, which I know she would love!!

My younger sister is also TTC & my mum joked that she'll have both of them at the same time!! Think she may be right!! lol

Its definetly put the fun back into TTC as the stress of childcare is no more!!!
