Benefit help! What the hell do i do!!!?

Between me and my partner i am the only one working. After tax i bring home approximatly £1,100. My other half is not claiming any benefits either. We are currently looking for a place, went to the CAB to ask them some advice and they basically were too busy timing me and were an absolute waste of time! Think iv found a place, its £450pcm...so expensive. How am i going to manage to buy my baby things Do you think i would be entitled to a maternity grant?! Where do i go for advice!? Aggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Im going mad!

Go to the government website, it will tell you everything that you are entitled to now and after you have had your baby. You may qualify for working tax credits so if you don't get them already, you should apply.
I don't know the web adress but if you type tax credits into google it will take you to the site.
Good luck chick xx

Maybe the job centre would help?

I was going to suggest CAB, but it sounds like they haven't been very helpful to you at all.

Hiya
I have only just seen this thread, but thought I would reply anyway.

You could try and claim Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit on the basis of low income.
You could also try to claim Working Tax Credit, but I'm not sure of the criteria for that.
Once your baby's born you need to claim Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit (if the later is paid at a higher rate that you should qualify for the Maternity Grant of £500 before your baby is 3 months old).
If your OH has worked in the last 2 full tax years (April 05/06 and 06/07 - obviously due to change in April) and is looking for work he can claim Jobseekers Allowance for himself only. Its only payable for 6 months, but is £59.15 pw at the moment.

Hope that helps.
