Anybody who managed to get out of their debts?

I was wondering if some of you lot managed to get out of their debts. I am almost in £18k of debts and was considering bankruptcy but this means never be able to buy a house for Thomas. So I would like to be able to afford paying back but my best asset is my car worth £1000
I am planning to move cheaper but commuting to work would be horrible as that will mean motorway and i am so scared of driving on motorways ( well driving in general ) and stuck in traffic as the M1 is always busy lol but no choice there , houses are cheaper there and my oh's mum could look after thomas reducing nursery's fees.
I have phoned nationaldebtline and others and it is either DMP or bankruptcy, so any tips would be great

I'm Currently Feeling:

about 7 years ago i ran up 22k worth of debt on cc, storecards and bank loans- v young, v stupid and had a BF who treated me like a walking bank!. this week i finally cleared the debt, yippheeee!!!!!!!
I contacted a money matters company who speak to all your creditors on your behalf(you keep well out of it cos these companies can get really nasty trust me) and arrange a monthly payment you CAN afford, some of them only get a few pounds but they tend to come to an agreement evidentually. There are lots of comps out there who do this type of thing but are theiving SOB's, this company is not. Thanks to them i got my life back at a time when i had no where else to turn cos of the debt, since then ive moved, travelled, got married and in general got back the life i shouldve had!!

If you want to chat PM me, more than happy to put you in touch with them or answer any questions, i know what your going through honest!!

We are 35 grand in debt

We are with a debt mangement comany, they do teh same as what muffin said, altho our creditors are not so willing to settle for lower amounts each month, we are waiting for all teh debts to get passed on to credit agentys then they will accept payments.

It sucks!

Well bad news!!!! I tried to use my credit card tonight and it has been declined along with my debit card.

Now i am stuffed cause i do not know how i am going to live with £40 until the 22nd, cannot move and cannot claim bankruptcy as you have to pay £500 to file for bankruptcy. I am in deep shite

How did i manage to be so stupid with the money??? it is not as if i spent it on holidays or expensive stuff, i have nothing worth in this house.

You don't always have to pay for bankruptcy - Citizens advice will help you there!

I found this site helpful when I asked for a debt to be wiped & others lowered:

http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/en...ebt_advice.php

Section 6 at the bottom of the page has example letters!

Citizens advice are a really good help with debts, we had one for £400 for littlewoods (some mix up between rob and his mum, ended up Rob owing the money). The CAB went through with us what our outgoings were a week and what we could afford to pay to get it sorted. They called the debt collectors and made an agreement with them.
In the end they just wrote it off so we never had to pay it back.

Ekkk, we dont have an debts, dont own credit cards or anthing.

Do you own your own property hun? If so if you move can you free up some equity, every time I move house I increase the value of the home (am DIY fiend) sell at profit and u the next house for less, so I pocket the extra. If your already looking at moving, is this an option?
