Question about hospital stays in the U.S.

Just wondering... Any of you ladies in the US who have had babies. I have really good insurance, I've had minor surgery, a couple of hospital stays, and have never had to pay a co-pay other than ER visits... But my DH's grandmother was telling him that when his grandfather was sick and in the hospital, they had to pay $150/night, on top of whatever their insurance was paying. I was wondering if you girls know if this is normal when having babies? I've stayed 4 nights in a hospital once, and we only had to pay the ER co-pay, which was $50. I'm going to call insurance tomorrow, and make sure, but that sucks if we have to pay that much on top of what we pay our insurance companies. Any experiences or thoughts?

Thanks!

hi!
i talked to my assurance about it ...i am trying to get PG right now and should meet you at my place for the meet cost anyway...but i am with blue shield and i under a plan with a deductible of $2000 (a copay of $45) and my assurance cost me about $160 a month ...so when we started to ttc i call to find out if there was a better plan and the only option i had was no deductible but paying $450 a month so it was not worth it not knowing when i will get PG (you see already 3 month now i am trying ) so anyway i am glad i stayed under my plan but everything should be paid once i reach the $2000 (is still a lot but nothing comparatly what cost a delivery in USA ! can go up to $15 to $25 000! )

It shouldnt matter if you are admitted because you are sick or having a baby, your coverage and deductable is the same and it does not double to cover the baby. Most policies have what is called "Well Baby" and you baby will be covered for all the visits until they are 1. Atleast that is how mine is.

Mine is horrible! My out-of-pocket for the year is $2000 per person, or $4000 for the family. And to make matters worse, we are switching insurance in April, so I have to pay the deductible I'm with now, and the new insurance deductible!
