Thumbs down

Sick Animal

Well I took my chameleon in today to get a check up because she's started to lay eggs and she's also got a growth in her rear hind leg. I noticed the growth last Friday and didn't think it looked right and it has grown.
The check up alone was 90 dollars and in order to find out what this growth is we have to do x-rays, lab work and blood work and it will cost almost 400 dollars.. I really don't know what to do. We didn't even pay that to have both of my cats spayed and have there shots up to date...
I don't want my poor lizad to be in pain but I have to get it treated. I'm worried that if it's a disease she will need to be put to sleep But we cannot afford it! Not with moving and getting things prepared for Angelynn coming home. *sigh* there's always something

You have a Chameleon - Thats so cool!! I love them!

I really hope she's ok. It's terrible when they get ill and you're worried how much it will cost to have it put right. I've been in that situation a few times and you feel so guilty if you can't afford it. I've always thought I don't care about money - just my pets but now I have a baby on the way I understand how that changes.

When my favourite guinea pig got ill, I'd been out of work and had no money. I knew she needed to see a vet but hesitated because I couldn't afford it. Eventually I took her to the vet as they said I could pay later but she died in the waiting room. I was so sad and felt terrible for hanging around all morning wondering what to do. The vet was very good and gave her an injection to make sure she was completely gone and not in pain and he didn't charge me anything. Not all vets are that kind though.

Talk to your vet. I know our vet here will let people charge if it's an emergency, and then just pay alittle along. When we had to get our dogs shots we used to postdate them a check and then just go in and pick the check up/let them know when to run it through. It's worth a try. Hope everything turns out okay! I hate when animals are in pain!

I would talk to the vet and tell them your situation, maybe they will come down on the bill. It worked for my coworker and his vet bill was cut well over half....

Definitely talk to you vet!! Many vets have back-up help from organizations they are apart of that would come in and help families with injured and sick pets who cannot afford treatment sometimes. It is worth a try and i am sure some veterinarian or organization out there has a soft spot for exotic animals. xoxo good luck.

Thanks ladies... I can pay for the lab work but I am scared of what the outcome might be. I fear the worst and I fear for what it will cost afterwards say if she needs surgery to fix it. But I will talk to them for sure and get a worst case scenario.
