Unhappy

Why is she saying this stuff to me?

Okay.. so for some background info:
Jamie's side of the family threw a big fit because they wanted their own baby shower, and said it like if I mom threw one (because that was the original plan) that they wouldn't attend.
So, my mom decided not to throw one since they were; that my side of the family would just have alittle get together and give me gifts for LO.
However, now Jamie's side of the family is waiting until the last minute to do this baby shower! I'm already 8.5 months, and they dont plan on doing it for another month! I dont mean to sound inconsiderate or whatever, but Jamie and I just dont have money to buy tons of baby stuff that we dont get at the shower one week before the baby is due!

Then she tells me that they dont want to have the baby shower too early because 'something might happen'. She goes on and says..
"[to Jamie] you know what happened with Donna's (her sister) baby, you never know whats going to happen with this baby!!"
and so I butted in and said, "Oh yeah, thats what you tell us, [mocking her] we dont want to have a baby shower because your baby might DIE [end mocking her]!!"
and she started yelling at me saying, "SEE! Thats where you get an attitude" or something like that. and so I yelled back:
"NO! THATS NOT WHAT YOU TELL AN EXPECTING PARENT: [mocking again] WE DONT WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABY SHOWER BECAUSE YOUR BABY MIGHT DIE!!! [end mocking again]"

UUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I just want out of this house. I want to move far away and dont want her around my son EVER!!!

I don't really know what to suggest but I do think it is leaving it a bit late. Especially when you consider that he could arrive 2 or 3 weeks before his due date. Would it help to just TELL them that you don't want to wait and set a date that is good for you? Don't take no for an answer!!

I have a simlilar problem in that my family want to buy stuff for baby and give it to me for my birthday, but thats 3 weeks before baby is due and he could pop out anytime at that point, especially as know one can make their minds up when my DD actually is!

It would be fine if I knew what they were getting and that they'd definatly get it for my birthday & not later but my mum for example has already told me a list of things she wants to buy and she's never been that reliable. I doubt she can afford it for a start. She was meant to be getting a sterilizer for Christmas but said all the shops she tried had sold out and she'd get it in a few weeks time. Instead she gave me breast pads!!!! I know it's the thought that counts...... ???? Knowing her past reputation for buying presents after the event, I won't ever see a sterilizer from her.

I think I'm going to just have to buy everything myself that I feel is importnant and tell them what I have. I'm grateful that they want to help but sometimes help is best avoided.

Well, see, thats what I told them, that I dont mind so much if I know what the big, important things I am getting are. I dont so much care about little things, but the big things are very important. Things like a CAR SEAT!! Everyone in his family understands, and his sister said she would find out the things and send me a list. But his mom wont give it (the list) to us when the time comes (I know her all too well), and she keeps saying "THAT RUINS THE SURPRISE!"
They just started talking about the baby shower yesterday because I started complaining that it was getting late! We haven't even officially set a date yet.
Then his mom said, "Some people wait until AFTER the baby is born!"
WTF kind of people do this? I mean, his sister has said that she is getting us the travel system, with the car seat and stroller. If we wait until after the baby is born to have the shower, WTF is he going to ride home from the hospital in!!
Anyways, I could go on and on forever, so I need to stop

And I dont mean to sounds inconsiderate. I might sound like this, but it just upsets me cause my mom would have thrown me one had they not been like that, and for two they just keep saying you will get everything, blah, blah, blah. But I'm worried, because there are so many big things that we need and they keep telling us not to buy anything until after the shower, etc. But even if every person gets us one big thing, there are still more things we will need.

I'm just tired, and have had horrible hormones these last few weeks. I've been crying like crazy.

Maybe your mom could go ahead and throw one for you now? I know my aunt had 3 when she had her first, One with the family, one at work, and one with friends from high school.Your mom could throw one and if they still want to throw their own then let them...Good Luck!
