I applied on the 10th january, and got a letter in today saying ive been awarded the £500 and it should be in my account by the 15th.

i got rejected for it but i am a single parent and only earn like £8000 a year MAX and thats with lots of overtime in. so i am going to re apply when the babies here. i was going to appeal against the decision now because apparently they reject whoever they can first because people who really need it re-apply x

i am getting £1 less of what the family tax credit amount is to quailfy, im hopeing they will let me off the £1!

I am also going to be a single parent but i will have maternity pay (not enough to survive) does anyone know if this sure start maternity grant will apply to me?? thankyou xx and also just like to say hi to everyone because im a new user

Basically I couldn't apply until AFTER she arrived as I would not have qualified! I needed Caitlin to be here & claim my child tax credits then I was able to & I was granted it. Took a lil over a week but it was the Christmas period also!

You can get a Sure Start Maternity Grant if you or your partner are getting:
  • Income Support
  • Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit at a higher rate than family element or
  • Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award
