I definitely know for sure they AREN'T allowed to ask when you are returning - it's up to you to give notice if you intend to work EARLIER than the OML/AML dates.
as far as im aware you can return earlier if you wish!!! and you get 9 months paid but can take 12 months (with the remainding 3 months unpaid) and your company has to keep your job open to you within this year!!!
