Life Insurance

Do many people think about this? Who do you get your life insurance through?

We're considering it with Caitlin on way!

Really made me think things through when Thomas was born.

We have life insurance through Norwich Union did it online. About £8k worth only £8 per month.

I also brought a kit from Amazon on how to write your own will as good as a solicitor would do and it's so simple. Planning on doing it before Christmas so Thomas is covered should anything happen to both of us.

How long is your insurance for?

I looked at one company and you had to state £ you wanted to be insured for & how long you wanted the cover for.

I think or £100,000 for 10 years it was £18 a mnth or us both or something like that.

Whats the kit like?

We have just been told "will kits" are worth shite!

We are making our wills next week with our solicitors for £100, we asked an independant solicitor (not urs) and our morgage company about "do it oyurself will kits" and had the same answer each time ... do it with your solicitor its water tight.

Our life insurance is through friends provedent

I thought it'd be really expensive doing a will through a solicitor, is that £100 for both of you or each?

The will kit gives you a good idea of how to split things, and how things work legally so I could use the will kit to write what I'd like to happen with things and then see the solicitor who could draw it up officially and keep it.

Thats for both, we are making a joint will.

TBH i would rather pay alot for peace of mind and know my wishes would be granted, than making my own for it to be disputed cause it is worthless and not valid.

I think the max you pay is £150

and LOL wobbs tell stu to watch himself on the stairs pmsl

Will kits (depending on what ones you get) are ok. Once you've put your signature on it they are just a legally binding (with a witness obviously) as is anything in the UK as long as there isn't a statutory law against whatever your wishes are (i.e: I leave £10,000 to Joe Blogs if they kill my mother in law ).

Sorry, I should say IMO. I guess I'm always skeptical of someone like a solicitor that says you should pay £100 over the odds when they stand to make money from telling you that. It's not as if solicitors have legally binding powers. As long as you keep it within the law your penmanship is just a binding as theirs.
