I was going to go to college but the course I wanted to do was only available as a uni degree. I think only certain courses are part time. A lot you are able to do from home mostly but you will still have to attend a few classes/tutorials a month, depending on what you want to study. I know uni's here have creches too but not sure how colleges work in that respect

I go part time, twice a week, the baby is in daycare everyday from 7:30-1:30 but I take him in later as I don't need him to be there that early. I pump one 150-180 ml bottle for him and he gets a fruit at 9 and a veg at 12:30. It was a bit hard at first to get him onto the bottle but the MAM bottle did the trick. It a small playgroup of 5 babies. As far as the college side, its really not a demanding course as its only an extra diploma on top of my college degree. When I need to do an assigment or homework I do it when the baby is asleep or entertained in some way or when my DH is home. It was not easy putting the baby into daycare for this but its his future involved too and I know that in a few years he will have even more needs and I will need money to look after him.
He is thank G-D happy there , hope this helped.

I did a course last year in Accounting part-time. It was evenings though. 2 nights a week 5-9. It was hard working and going to college and there's no way I could go back to work and go to college now that I have Caitlyn.

If you're looking in to doing a part time course you can contact your local college and they will send you a part-time prospectus and that will tell you what hours it will be.

If you have been to college previously and done A levels or a level 3 course, i think you will have to pay for the course yourself. I'm not sure though, you might get it free or cheaper if you are on any benefits?

xx

I'm part way through a diploma at the mo (its basically modules from a degree .. but I choose the individual modules I want, rather than the whole degree syllabus) ...
They send the course materials, questions etc ..
I have to get hold of the additional reading materials and then I work through at my own pace and send off the assignments once they are done.

I quite like doing it like this .. although you do need to be very self motivated.

I've also done a couple of additional A'Levels through the local collages ... I had to pay but again I was given the materials and studied my self ... with the 3rd one I just bought a Letts type study guide, did that, read the additional reading and then sat the exam.

I think your best bet would be to go into a local collage and just ask the admin officer what they have to offer for you ... generally they are really really helpful.

I'm keeping an eye on this because i want to go back to college to do childcare, but because i've already done my A-levels i'll have to pay so i need to try and either balance it part time with work, or do it in the evenings and i currently have no idea how part time stuff works. xx

I go to uni part-time (well, I have taken year off to have LO but will be going back after summer) A uni course normally consists of 8 modules per year (subjects/lessons). Part time, I study 4 (2 per semester/half year). This means I normally have to be in lectures twice a week, morning or afternoon. So, if the degree course you are doing would normally take 3 years, it will take double that time. You can, however, increase your modules and take 3 per semester or even 4 if you like. This will obviously reduce the time it takes to complete your course.

I have to pay fees too. It's quite pricey!

Yeah I don't know how it works either. Is it set out by the college, or do you pick, or what?

I'm at college at the mo and classed as a full time student but its only 17 hours per week. Different colleges offer the classes at different times some in the day some at night. I THINK you get a reduced rate on the fees if you are on benefits and there is the Adult learning grant available which is £30 a week to help pay for travel etc.
You can also pay on payment plans which is quite usefull. (You can at my college anyways)

I joined up to college when I was 17 so i got a two year course free.

What were you looking at doing hun?

I don't know. I was doing Psychology, Human Biologiy, Chemistry (at Sixthform) and Law (at home) but I want to do something different. I think I'll continue with my Law thing, because it was an "in your own time" thing and I'm pretty sure I can pick up where I left off.
