Adult learning, A levels, and what to do now?

This might sound really stupid, but I've never had to enquire about it before so I have no clue.

I didn't finish my A levels before I was pregnant. Not because I was pregnant, because I had a viral infection and was told the time off had made me miss too much work. The doctor wouldn't let me go back to college, for fear of me falling down stairs with dizzyness etc.

Anyway, Caitlyn is getting abit older now, is there any way I could get back into education? I'll be 20 by the time the next year starts, so it wouldn't be free, and I assume I can't go back to sixthform. So where do you do your A levels when you're considered an adult? An adult learning center?

Anyone studying with a baby?

Have you got a connexions centre near you, i know they only go up to 19yrs old but they could tell you a list of colleges that have nurserys. I went to quite a big college and there was a few mature students studying with children x

I think you would have to look into colleges rather than sixth forms, but you should be able to get support with Childcare and other expenses whilst you study. Do you have a surestart or a CLIP office near you? They would be able to give you advice.

Failing that, contact the colleges directly and explain your situation, they will have specialist student support advisor who will be able to help you out.

Good luck with your studies

What about learning at home, at your pace? The Open University runs all sorts of courses, not just degrees. You can work in your own time, around Caitlyn and it doesn't matter how long it takes

Because you're on income support, you shouldn't have to pay to go to college. I'm not sure about England, but in Scotland they have Passport To Learning for people on low incomes which allows them to study part time for free.

Hey toria,

You can do a Level 3 qualification up until you're 25 for free. Its part of the LSC funding. As long as its your first level 3 qualification you're entitled to do it for free.

xx

When you go to a college or further education college, you get means tested on how much you pay, I don't think they would charge you to be honest but I am not sure of your situation. It is worth looking at local colleges and getting prospectus. What are planning on studying?
