My husband and I are fed up with public schools and are considering a few other options...including a private Christian academy and maybe even home schooling. The academy is $600/month for both kids and things may get tight. That price doesn't include books, uniforms or lunches. As far as the home schooling, it's becoming very popular and many families link up for outings, field trips and sport's events. I'd have to purchase the state approved curriculum, books, supplies and probably software. Any thoughts?
I don't know about the american schooling system but home schooling is something I have thought about. I did have a list of websites but they are on my old computor so I can't get them. Al I did was google home schooling and got a lot of information through that. Sorry can't help more.
i have thought about home schooling also, cheyanne. i feel it is a great idea, but can't really give you advice on it, since i haven't done it yet! :-) good luck on your decision!
That's a hard question. I'm inclined to go with the private school system. Apart from the curriculum I think there are other valuable things children need that home school may not provide such as interaction with their peers and exposure to environments/people different from their everyday norms.
Id have to agree. Part of growing up is getting to know others, learning how to socialise with people, how to treat them etc and i dont think you could get that with home schooling. I also think a change of enviroment is good for anybody, not just a child. I certainly wouldnt want to look at the walls of my house all day everyday
im the same, i dont think home schooling is a good thinng, its wrapoping a child up in cotton wool they need togoout and experience things in every day life inc the bad things, we all learn from mistakes.
Home schooling isn't just about staying at home. There are all sorts of oppertunities for the children to socialise. For example if I was to home school my children would be members of different groups, i.e. brownies, judo etc etcPlus homeschooling families meet up often.

Thanks for that link Beanie. My mom was of the same opinion as most of the others until I explained that each community has support groups. They meet up several times a week for field trips, sporting events, trips to museums, movies, plays, projects etc. I think those kids have way more socializing than most groups. The only reason I would choose private school would be so I can maintain my "alone" time and maybe a shred of sanity. LOL Thanks for all of yall's comments.
u will ve to deciede what right for u and ur family way up the pros and cons of what u would be losing out if the kids go private and how will it effect u and the kids if they are hme 24'7
