Hi babe I've found this:
http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/nursing_entry.shtml

I know for a nursing diploma in my local uni you need 5 GCSEs.. do you currently work in care? X

The job situation is improving, somewhat, in Scotland at least. There are internships for newly qualified nurses that at least let you get your foot in the door and get some experience. It's not a bed of roses, but give it 5 years and who knows how things will be? I think if nursing is what you *really* want to do, and you've looked into it thoroughly, don't let how things stand at the moment put you off.

I think the problem you will run into is that the nursing diploma is being phased out, and nursing is becoming a degree-only profession. Which means that you'll either need A-levels/Highers or you really need to check with individual Universities to make sure that Access courses will be acceptable.

when i qualified loads of my friends didnt have jobs and ended up in tesco, most have jobs now but a lot are still stuck in nursing home as there arnt any jobs.

each uni is different, our only accepted high level a levels , like Bs or As. there is access to nursing, dont know if its still around though. but no one will accept you on just GCSEs, you will need to go to college first, its a degree after all so you need to be able to prove you can complete a degree. Most uni's really want experience too, mine did, there were very few on my course without experience.

I started a nursing diploma in 05 but I quite in 07.. all the girls I started with got jobs luckily ..

I was considering going back to finish it off but now they don't give you a bursary I can't do it... in 3/4 years time they'll be a massive short of nurses where people just can't afford to do the course x

Have they really done away with the bursary in England? I thought it was only last year or something that they finally stopped it being means-tested, so what's with stopping it?

Sounds like the job situation is marginally better in Scotland at the moment.
