How do you measure up for curtains??

I know that's a really stupid question, but I'm pg - that's my excuse!!

We're swapping the rooms round this January, so Kayleigh will be in the box room, and Charlie and the new baby will share the bigger room. But I need new curtains for both as the colours are both changing so we can't just swap them over.

The actual window size for both rooms is 33 inches wide, by 39 inches high. So what size curtains will I need to allow for them to go above the window and give a nice drop, and also so they are still a bit gathered when pulled together?

I'm having a real thick day today!!

oh curtains are sooooo confusing!! with regards to the drop i.e. the length, i believe its however long you want them, so i would measure from a few inches above the window, where the pole is, down till you want them. i like my curtains quite long, so have them in the living room a foot or so below the window seal.

with regards to the gather, for the width, i think its normally double, if your going to a curtain shop to have a look, like paul simons, where we normally go, i'm sure they tell you how much.

enjoy your shopping sweetie, curtains confuse me!! x

46x54 will probably be the best 'shop' bought size but will be 15 inches below the sill. Each curtain will be 46 so 92 in total and that will give you enough to gather
