Being in love with someone is that romantic feeling, whereas "love" can be used to express how you feel about family, friends, pets, etc. also.

The Greeks are better at this than we are I think, they have different words for love and each word is used for something different, the types of love are more clearly distinguished in Greek.

Eros - passionate love, like the love you'd have for your husband, boyfriend
Philia - friendship love
Storge - used mostly for talking about your children

Then there's also Agape and Thelema, I can't remember really what those 2 are for though! Thinking back to grade 11 religion is a stretch for me sometimes, lol.

this is what i think...

love is when u love some one as a friend u dont have strong feelings for them u just `love`them `

but being in love is wanting to be with some one the rest of ur life. wanting to spend every moment in the arms. cant get enough of them. wanting to have babies with them ect

"The best relationships in life are the ones where your love for eachother exceeds your need for eachother"

interesting question..

for me when you love someone you care about them deeply, i love my mum, i would do anything for her.

when you're in love you feel romantically attracted to the person, i'm in love with james, i feel i always want to be with him, fully, i give my all, my heart and soul, i feel i give him everything i can, deeply and fully, and he does the same... hope that makes sense x

Being in love is when u can sit in a room not say anything or do anything and have that overwhelming for someone where you cant be without them the prospect of them not being there rips you appart. Love is ALWAYS having to say your sorry. You work at love it doesnt just happen

&& loveing someone is when you care about someone and cares what happens to them. but you can bare to live without them

thats what it is for me

Okay here is my take- Love is the feeling, loving who someone is, how they do things, attraction etc, being "in" love, is when you are willing to do pretty much anything for that one person. To do things for them, that you would not be willing to do for just anyone. Also being willing to be selfless towards this person you are "in" love with. Think of your first love, say maybe there is always a place in your heart for him (if you think that) well I still love my first love, but I am not in love with him... right? so think, the difference between your first love, and your current relationship... It's funny because I know the difference in my mind, but I just can't write it down lol
