Taken the first step to Oz

Well, after months of talking about it, we finally filled in the on-line application this afternoon! And.......

....... we passed!! Just the initial phase, but we have enough points!!

Within 2 hours of filling it in, we had a phonecall from a guy at the Australian commission asking all sorts of questions!!! He's confirmed we've got the initial entry level pass grade, and has emailed us some more forms to fill out.

Now - how can I lay my hands on the £4k I need for the process!!

We'll get it somehow even if I have to beg/borrow from my parents.

Perth here we come!!! In about 12-24 months hopefully!!!

You get points for different things - age, qualifications, skills, trade, etc. You need 120 points minimum to be considered. Stu's only 27, so gets 30 points for that straight away. It'd be different if I was the first applicant as I'm 38 and don't get hardly any points for that. When I was talking to the guy on the phone, i told him we had friends that went over 2 months ago, and he asked what he did. When I said Carpenter/joiner, he said he wasn't surprised as they were crying out for tradesmen over there. Anything skilled manual - plasterer, builder, electrician, that sort of thing. Also healthcare - doctors, nurses, dentist. DH's a qualified Greenkeeper, so he gets 60 points for that as they are trying to develop tourist trade, and golf courses are a big pull.

If you're thinking about it, fill a form in. Won't harm you!
