A bad mum ?

Okay, dont get me wrong. my boyfriends mum is lovely, always makes me laugh and i can always talk to her, but i dont really agree with the way she is with her son :/

Shes 38, and her son is coming up to 2 years old. Ive known her since she was 3 months pregnant so ive been with her all the way. Anyway, the boy in my opinion is so spoilt ! The whole family spoil him, as in, what he wants he gets. If he wants to go on the trampoline and we say no, hell scream and scream and then she'll just take him on. She makes him dinner, he;ll eat a spoonful and then just play around, she wont say nothing and just throw it away and let him have anything he wants later on. He doesnt have a routine at all, he stays up as late as we do ! He doesnt go to bed till 12/1am , and he spends up untill then playing and going crazy.

Also the kids ( my boyfriend, his sister and brother ) taught him when he was younger how to 'fight' as a joke. And now, whenever he goes on one of his hyper moments, he'll sit there and scratch u to death and bite and pull your hair. They just find it funny most times ( they do occasionally tell himoff ! ) and get on with it.

to be honest i just think thats damn right stupid. Would you let your baby act like that ?!

It wouldnt be how i would want to bring up my child!
I know a few like it and it does wind me up, i mean my mates son is 4 and he jumps about on everyone and when i was in early stages of my pregnancy he wouldnt listen to any one telling him that he couldnt jump on me like he use to took ages to get him to stop. He just wouldn't listen as he is spoilt and does what he wants! Really with you having a baby of your own he will no longer be the baby of the family and no doubt get jealous and be even worse,
what does your OH think of it all? xx

I don't agree with parents who bring their children up that way. They often turn out to be spoilt and get everything their own way and that's a bad road to go down when preparing for the future, where you will certainly not get your own way by shouting and screaming. But at the end of the day, she will be the only one to blame. If she wishes to bring her child up that way then that's up to her, I just think it's unfair on the child more than anything

No i believe a child needs a routine and to be tought whats right and wrong! Shes making it worse for herself as he will expect things more and more if she gives in all the time.

It depends. Sometimes he tells his mum that hes a spoilt brat and needs to be learnt, other times he'll just do what he wants.

But because i dont agree in telling other peoples children off, i dont know how to react when im with him ! ill be feeding him his dinner and he wont eat it then ask for chocolate so ill tell to eat his dinner first or he cant have any chocolate and he just screams, so his mom says ' just leave him laur' so i end up throwing his food away and half hour later he has chocolate.

it pisses me off to be honest. my baby would never be brought up that way at all.

If a kid came up to me and pulled my hair or bit me, id tell the child "no, dont hurt me, that isnt nice." not in a shouting or overly harsh way...in a way that says "im being serious"
Ive had that with a child once, and ive said that and the kids parents have still laughed and ive turned to the parents and said "sorry, i dont find it funny." they've quickly seen im not going to take it.
