I'm Currently Feeling: | Advice about my Cat........ Some of you may have read last week that my kitten Poppy went in to the vets to be spayed last week.
Well she came home, feeling sorry for herself but we expected that, but by Wednesday she was getting quite lethargic and not eating anything, even the fresh chicken I made her (highly unusual for her!)
So I phoned the Vets and they said to bring her in which we did and the vet checked her stitches which are fine but she had a bit of a temperature so she thought she might have an infection somewhere, she also had a red mark on her neck and the vet thought it was a reaction to one of the drugs injected into her for her Op, so anyway, she gave her an antibiotic and pain killer and sent us home with 4 days worth of more antibiotics.
The thing is, she has turned into a really nasty cat over the past few days, she is growling at everyone, turning her nose up at any food she is offered and is just being horrible!
Have any of you had a female cat do this after being spayed? I don't know if she is just in the huff with herself and everyone, or if the tablets haven't worked, she doesn't seem to be in any pain so I really don't know whether to bother the vet again, or just wait til Thursday when she goes back to get her stitches out..........
Any advice would be fab! |

Our 2 boy cats seemed fine after theirs too, I think a girls operation is more intrusive though, my boys came home, ate and went out to play after theirs!
I think I will give the vet a phone tomorrow, it's not really bothering them is it? I pay for their time and expertise!! |

| Hey hun, having three cats myself, I'd say she sounds like she's in pain, give her a few days but if it's no better I'd take her back and tell the vet what you've just told us. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I don't know anything about cats, sorry (I have dogs) But I'd definitely go back to the vet, or at least give them a call and see what they say. I know how worrisome it is when one of your babies isn't acting right.
I hope she feels better soon! |

| My girl cat was hissy the day we brought her home from her operation, but the vet told us to expect that as a side effect of the anesthetic.
She was a bit tired the next few days, but back to her normal self.
Poppy's change in temperament sounds like something might be up. The temper can be as strong an indicator as a behaviour change. Plus, she's off her food.
Call your vet. They won't mind. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks girls, i phoned the vet this morning and they said to bring her in. she has been there all day, they knocked her out and took some bloods to check if she had reacted badly to the 1st anesthetic, which could have caused her to have something wrong with her kidneys or liver.
The vet just phoned and she seems to be fine, her bloods were ok but she still suspects infection so has upped her dose of antibiotics and given her more painkillers.
I'm just going to pick her up and then they want to see her again on Wednesday....... i am starting to fear the bill at the end of all this!! She is totally worth it though! xxx |
