I'm Currently Feeling: | My other hamster has died :( So my other one has now died, found her this morning I was going to get her to the vets this morning but I guess I was too late. I'm just glad she's not in pain anymore and is now with her sister.
They have died within 48hours of each other. I'm so upset that I've lost both my little ones so quickly, I've only had them for 6months and already I feel lost without them. I can't bare to look at an empty cage, it breaks my heart. I miss them so much. |

Do you think they had a disease or just coincidence they died close together, Just remember if you get another one to throughly disinfect incase its was disease-you don't want the new one getting ill x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I think they must of been ill. The hamster (Bubbles) who died 2 days ago seemed ok but just died for no reason (at least, I didn't know the reason).. but in the last 2 days, my other hamster (Squeak) has started to look a bit unwell. When Bubbles died, Squeak lost her appetite and stopped drinking for that day but then she started to eat and drink a lot better and was starting to get better. We were checking up on her every couple of hours but then she just went this morning in her sleep, all snuggled up in her bedding. I don't know what was wrong with her as I was going to take her to the vets today but it ended up being too late. I'm just glad they are out of their pain now and together again like sisters should be. I just wish I could have done something for both of them, had I known sooner. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Sorry to hear this hun but I just wanted to find out if you were aware that Hamsters can sometimes go into a hibernation like state where they may appear dead?
This is probably not the case with yours but it has happened to mine in the past.
Hamsters like to be in the range of 65-80 degree Fahrenheit. When the temperature goes below 40 Fahrenheit, they may go into temporary hibernation, or torpor. A hibernating hamster may die of hypothermia or starvation if not aroused. If you have a hamster in this sleeping state it may seem that all life is extinct in the hamster, but close observation will reveal the hamster’s whiskers (vibrissae) are still twitching. The hamster must be aroused by slowly warming or gentle handling and stroking. After the arousal period it may be noted that hamster will be little groggy and trembling this will last only for a short time.
To prevent a hamster from hibernating it is suggested to keep your hamsters warm, keep the temperature above 15°C, keeping them well lit for at least 12 hours a day provide plenty of food and handle regularly
During deep hibernation the heart rate slows to as little as 4 beats per minute and the respiration can fall to only one breath every 2 minutes. The temperature of the cheek pouch will remain slightly above the ambient temperature. On examination, the hamster is curled up and the limbs feel more rigid than normal, but can still be extended slightly by gentle traction. On close inspection and following a gentle stroke the whiskers will be seen to twitch. This is the most consistent finding in a hibernator. Features that suggest that the animal has died are board-like rigidity of the limbs indicating rigor mortis and failure to waken or show any sign of life after 24 hours in an ambient temperature above 20°C. |

Do you think the hamsters could have died of wet tail?? http://www.petwebsite.com/hamsters/hamster_wet_tail.htm
