Well we kind of already are at war at the moment, U.S. and Canada against Iraq and Iran or whatever... If they go after Russia and Poland etc we are just going to be heading for a world war... Which I really do hope doesn't happen.

Men are too cocky for their own good, that includes George W and much of our military men (here anyways). I find it hard to respect most of them, I live in a military town and most (not all) of the mean and women are the rudest, most inappropriate self-righteous men and women you could ever meet. Its all big guns, drinking and whores and cheating on their wives now.

A definately far leap for the poor young countries boys who used to be forced into war.

Its quite sad how everything is turning out.

To answer the question "Why Georgia?", apparently there is a major and very strategic oil pipeline there.
Hence Dubbya getting involved at all.
And I think the war in Iraq is a strictly US thing. Chretien kept us Canadians out of that and we had some pretty frosty relations with the States for awhile. But don't worry - Harper is all too eager to get our military going and looooves American foreign policy.
As for an all-out war, I don't think so. Russia is becoming a powerhouse again but they are not yet to the point that they can tell the rest of the world to bring it on.
Sure doesn't feel nice to hear all this saber-rattling though, does it?

Can we all cross our fingers please that Obama and Dion get in power at the same time?

Georgia has some major oil pipelines there, if russia has control of georgia...well russia gets the $$!!

as for those talking about US involvement etc etc...

have you guys thought about Turkey bordering Georgia at all???? There is a U.S. Air Force base located in Turkey...those families and men/women stationed there are probably on lockdown being so close to Georgia...i know Turkey is probably reinforcing their borders due to this whole mess. If the fighting spills out of Georgia, that's a bit close to home don't you think? I don't think U.S. will be able to just sit back and ignore that when they have service members and their families so close by... i know this hits me a bit close to home, DH once lived at that base in Turkey and even back then he knew the risks of russia vs. georgia. It only took Russia this long to decide to go in there.
