Unhappy

Oh no... :(

One of our little hamsters has just died. It broke my heart to see her just lying there. And her sister doesn't want to do anything, she seems so heartbroken This is such a shock, she was only 11months old and I thought they lived at least 2 years. I'm so upset about it, poor thing. I can't help but blame myself for it, I feel like it's all my fault. I'm finding myself asking myself lots of questions, like was she happy or sad when she died, was she in pain, did she have a good life, did we do a good job looking after her etc etc. My mind is going crazy with all of this, I really feel like I'm to blame.. if only she could have told us she was dying or something and I could have given her one last cuddle..

awww, not much you can do hun! Small animals can get all kinds of sicknesses which we dont know about. All you can do is give them the things they need and hope for the best.

Small animals also thrive on company, so I would get another hampster to keep the other one company.

Awww thanks

I guess it just put me into shock because whenever a pet has died before, I've always been too young to understand and this is the first time I've actually seen my own pet lying there dead. I just hope the other one isn't going to die of having a broken heart and loneliness. When we got them, we were told we can't put them with any other hamsters but only family. As they were sisters, there's nothing I can do for her because apparently they don't get on with other hamsters except their own. I don't know if this is completely true, they are russian dwarf hamsters. Feel so sorry for her because she won't eat and doesn't want to do anything.

Hiya

Sorry for your loss hun but im pretty sure you could get another hamster to keep her company, I have never heard about only keeping them with family?? as I had lots of hamsters when I was little & they are very sociable animals.

Maybe you could ask a Vet what they recommend just to check first? or maybe ever Google that particular breed? but I think they are probably happier when not kept alone xx

So sorry to hear about your hamster. Just wanted to make sure you don't put another new hamster in with the others as they would probably kill each other if not from the same litter. I'm sure your other hamster will be fine, just give them lots of cuddles, so they aren't lonely.
