Depends how traditional you are I suppose....

"History and Lore: Black is the total absorption of all colors and the absence of light. It was used for mourning by the Egyptians and Romans, and today almost all countries associate it with death and mourning. Black has also been recognized to imply humility and secrecy. It is frequently associated with witchcraft. In India and other countries in Asia, black represents the serfs and slaves."

Because black is a traditional symbol of death (as are lillies) I wouldn't have them at my wedding. However, I've seen some stunning black and white themes.

My bridesmaids all wore a simple black dress - all different styles, their choice. they looked great. It kept the cost really low, and unlike most bridesmaids' outfits, these actually COULD be worn again.
I have never been comfortable with that part of weddings - asking your closest girlfriends to foot the bill for clothes they'll wear once. I know it's tradition, but I've never felt right about it. Black was a great solution for me.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding several years back and our dresses were black and we carried white flowers. It was very pretty!

I love black bridesmaids dresses with white/ivory on them (whatever the bride is wearing) - black dress with an ivory sash...

I do think some styles can look wrong for a wedding though - long, black evening gowns don't look very 'weddingy' x
