| Thanks, Hayley for updating BNB. Poor Sebastian has not had an easy time of things and it seems the medical "professionals" are not the best. We were back in hospital only 3 hours after being released. How could the person who examined him not see he had jaundice? He was supposed to be placed under a light for it. While I went to the ladies, someone swaddled him in several layers and placed him under a heat lamp. I heard him screaming and walked in to find him very hot and immediately stopped it and unclothed him. Then a midwife came in afterwards and was wondering why he was under a heat lamp rather than under a phototherapy one!!!
In hospital, I pointed out that his eye was becoming crusty with yellow goo and said it was an infection. Oh no, I was told, his tear ducts are blocked, normal, etc. I insisted on a swab. I have no idea why midwives come to the home after the birth as they are useless. We also took him to the GP and he never paid any mind to the eye. So, Sebastian is now being taken to his daddy's GP and I am moving to the other GP, as well. I told them it was getting worse and one came out last Sunday. It was so bad that his eye was glued shut and yellow crust was all over his face. I kept getting the same answer, that it was not infected, etc. Well, I raised hell last night with the out of hours doctor (who I spoke to the day before about this) and got the results from the ward. And sure enough, he had an eye infection. Poor mite was not able to settle for days, kept wanting to be comforted and kept us awake. At midnight we were at Bluewater getting a prescription for it and he has been able to sleep.
I am still very sore and believe I have an infection from the catheter. I keep getting fobbed off and finally a sample was taken yesterday. I should not be in pain when I urinate considering I had a natural birth with no tears. And the midwife who came yesterday has not told us when I will get the results or when they are due to visit again! I am so raising hell tomorrow. And I am making a complaint. I asked for a referral to a breastfeeding counsellor and was told that they handle any problems, but was not given any practical advice. I am fuming...and I am in top form now that I am not shattered from being pregnant. I do not know why some people go into this sort of profession if they do not care.
