Which vacuum cleaner?

Anyone got a recommendation for a new vacuum cleaner? We're moving into a place with laminate floors all thorough, it'll be just me most of the time, no pet, but I get allergies every now and then.

I've never had an upright vacuum before, are they better, worse...

Upright vacuum cleaners are not good on hard type flooring, they are mostly for carpeted areas.

you would be better off with something like this for laminate or wood floors... http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conten...rand~dyson.htm

We replaced our upright with a Henry a couple of months ago, and I think he's fab.
I always struggled with an upright, it was soooo heavy & awkward to move about.

But Henry is a joy to use.
We got a plus, he's bigger than a standard Henry but still dead easy to use.

I wouldn't use anything else now.

They are also supposed to be very durable too.

We've got a dyson stowaway and its great. Good suction and has the added bonus of folding up small and fitting in a cupboard.

We recently replaced a Hoover vacuum cleaner (rubbish and broke very easily). OH spent days researching and in the end we got a Sebo upright cleaner. It has Hospital Grade filtration so should be good for your allergies too. I really like it (although I does look a bit retro) and they are meant to be reknown for their reliability. It has a 5 year guarantee too.

We bought it from the Co-op - which incidently is pretty good for house stuff (re your other thread!)
