I feel sorry for your friend. I, too, know what it's like to be called names and such. I've had people scream at me, "Go back to your f*cking reserve, indian!", "Squa", "Savage", the list goes on. It's horrible, I don't know how being racist satisfies anybody.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I can understand people who live in 3rd world countries and places where racial and religious intolerence runs high. But come on, this is Canada, we're supposed to pride ourselves and base our morals on being multi-cultural. That's what we're supposed to be "proud" of. I don't feel particularly proud when I'm surrounded by intolerance.

I think the better the society is perceived (in terms of resources, jobs, healthcare, education etc, not the people!) the more ignorant people get defensive and think others are somehow responsible for taking it away, or fear they will. Back to the cowardly fools - they are just like bullies at school, they don't understand and they are afraid; they throw blame at the nearest/easiest target without a second thought.

We are constantly exposed here to idiots waffling on about immigrants taking all our jobs blah blah blah and it's all utter crap. The general populus has zero understanding of the workings of economics, politics nor anything else to do with the functioning of a society so rather than find anything out they believe rubbish printed in right wing tabloids.
