Canadians are getting sticky on divorces.

My ex-next door neighbor is trying to get a divorce from her ex-husband, especially so that she can marry her current OH.

Anyhow, she has two children from that marriage and have pretty much 50/50 joint custody. He doesn't pay child support and she doesn't want him to. She also received a $70,000 settlement from her husband from assets of their house.

Well, she's trying to get a divorce but they said that her ex husband has to pay her child support. There is no such thing as an amicable arrangement of no child support nowadays when it comes to divorce.

She then tried to pretend that he pays her child support by having him sign a letter. It will not do. They need to go before the judge and after a certain period of time they prove that the ex-husband is paying child support they go before the judge again and then they can get a divorce.

WOW!

I guess in their eyes they don't want the woman coming back in 5 years due to a change in her situation wanting child support from her ex.

So, needless to say, right now, they cannot divorce.

Wow, I didn't think the courts would be able to do that once they both made an agreement. That is rather interfering, isn't it?

Yes, but I can see how the courts are trying to save money from future child support cases. And I can also see if a woman's situation changes and she goes back later on for child support.

At the same time they both want a divorce and don't need to have child support paid, yet they are being forced to have it paid.

BTW, kind of sucks for her current OH as they are engaged and were planning to marry in the fall.

They should still have their ceremony and just get the papers signed later on when they can. That is what I would be doing.
