Cat with a phobia?

Ok, so I think my cat Jasper (the same one from previous pictures) has a phobia...you would never guess what it is...

A HAT!!

The same hat I am wearing in this picture!! Shawn took the hat out of the closet yesterday and was wearing it. He put it on my head and all I did was take it off and set it on the laundry hamper beside the hamper he was laying on and he jumped literally backwards 10 feet in the air. He looked like a spring! We didnt know if maybe he thought it moved on its own so I just kind of chucked it over where he was and he started freaking out. He is so paranoid now and took him forever to even come back into my room and when he does he looks around and is majorly tense. Took him like 10 mins to jump on my bed from the ledge on our window it was almost like he thought it could be on the bed with me. We had to put it back in the closet and even if we bring it out he runs and the hair goes up on his back. I can see a vacuum or thunder and lightning storms or even something loud that moves but its a friggen hat! It doesn't have legs, it doesnt move...it doesnt do anything! None of the other cats are scared of it I could lay it right beside them and they dont care at all. So, my cat has a phobia...who knew cats could have phobias?! Now I dont know what to do because we cant even bring the hat out to wear it as Jasper hides and Im afraid of giving him a heartattack if he gets too scared. So what do I do?? Is there a way I can get rid of this fear? I do have to admit I laughed my ass off when it happened it was soooo funny! But now I just feel bad for the little bugger.

Oh bless - cats are so funny. All I would do is leave it lying around for a few days. They soon forget that it scared them to start with and soon it'll be his new best friend!!
We had this with a rug we have - the cat woud freak everytime she saw it. In the end she approached it and all of a sudden it was her new bed!! Odd!

My Mum's dog was scared of my cycle helmet. At first I thought there must've been a ghost in the room when she suddenly started barking wildly!
