Dying Material


Ok so me and OH has just moved into our new house where we are setting up nursery and i have this canvas set which i only use the wardrobe myself and it fits in with the colour of mine and OH's room
So im putting the shelving unit into babies room but bless him its pink



So im wondering what is the best way to Dye the material, ive never done it before so all advice would be brilliant thanks in advance

i take it the material comes off the wood frame? Dylon stuffs good, sell it at wilkinsons and woolworths i think

cool yeh it comes off its only pulled over and velcrowed by the feet..
Ill have to have a look will blue go on top of pink nicely ??

Well blue's darker so in theory it should but guess if you go 4 a baby blue u might b best bleachin it first or get a pre dye.

I would be wary. Can you test a bit? I'm sure it would need to be a darker colour and you might find it blends rather than covers. Might be better to try bleaching it first? If you go to a haberdashery and ask for fabric dyes (usually Dylon) they will be able to give you some advice. Find out what the fabric is first because not all take the dye anyway.

Thanks we r thinking red now lol as the babies room is a orange colour... it was already decorated when we moved in and at mo havent got time to try and cover such a in ure face colour so we r toning it down with white millie and boris pictures lol...

thanks tho im guna test a peice and ask for advice will save me pennies in long run x

Be interested in how you get on - I have a block of drawers made from same material and want to dye ever second one! I'd have bought dylon also ....let us know if it dyes ok (I want to go from cream to red)!

I hope you can get something that takes. I think red would cover it so it's a case of checking the fabric will take the dye. You might need to try it twice as the intensity can be quite variable.
