I didn't need the timer in the end: My labour started with my waters breaking, and after that I started getting contractions - that were as in intense and close together as they were at the end of my labour! In fact, toward the end of my labour is when they sort of pittered out and became less painfull and more spaced out (they were replaced with an overwhelming need-to-push feeling, though!).

It wasn't until afterwards that I started wondering "Where the heck was that 'first stage' of labour that I've heard so much about??" lol
