Question

Beliefs.

My husband brought up what we both believe in, and i told him i believe after we die we become spirits to look over our family. He told me that he doesnt believe in anything...How can you believe in nothing??
Im not meaning to be disrespectful..im genuinely interested..how can you believe that when you die, your dead?? I couldnt..

I'm not sure if this is the same thing.. But I don't really think about it enough to believe anything iyswim? I don't think anything happens, but I think that's more that I'm not really thinking about it enough to think 'I wonder what's going to happen?' x

My OH is exactly the same! He doesnt believe in anything! I dont understand because he believes that mediums can speak to spirits...so where does he think the spirits come from? Very strange.

Im the same as you, I totally believe in the spirit world

Surprisingly, I'm a very spiritual person and most of the people I've ever been involved with have been extremely against any religion / life after death existing. It made for some very interesting 3am conversations

I am not religious in any way, I don't believe in Heaven and Hell as such. However I believe that when we die, that's not just it and that their is something after. I just don't know what and I don't feel it's my place to say what there is because I don't know for certain and so would feel it's wrong to preach my beliefs to others which is the reason I'm not religious.

I don't really believe in it tbh. it's a nice thought to think that you'll be able to look over people you care about or whatever but I just don't believe in it. I can't really get my head round it. Id like to be proved wrong though.

S'not overly a man thing - its more an apathetic thing where people just haven't thought about it. I mean, personally I have beliefs in there being a form of "god" but I'm not overly sure I know what or who God is. Its a dilemma... so then I begin to wonder about if God is compassionate... and if the Son of God was also compassionate... then I get to thinking - does that compassion spread to animals? For me it does, so I'm veggie... but didn't the Son of the Deity in Question eat fish and meat? Does that more I'm more compassionate than Christ?! But surely then... I must be Christ and then...

as you can see, it's a dilemma.

As an aside, I do seriously think about higher beings... its just taking a lot of thought and reading.

Each to their own on this one, I guess.

As beliefs of this sort tend to be very strong, and so very diverse as well - so extremely opposite, it is always going to be a challenge to try and see things from the viewpoint of someone who's beliefs on the matter differ to yours, or to understand how someone can believe something totally opposite to your own beliefs and concepts on the these matters.

Something that is plain-to-see to one person, can easily baffle and seem batently wrong to another. Sometimes it's best just to live and let lie on these matters... If you're really interested in what he's beliefs are and how / why he believes what he does, maybe the best route would be to sit down with him one day and discuss it - ask him what exactly he believes and why - It might help to put things into a light you can better understand them in. Alternatively you may learn that your husband holds beliefs that you just simply cannot comprehend. That is not necessarily a bad thing.

Hope someone can give you an answer that you are looking for here, and one that helps you to understand where your husband is coming from (if you even can).

I won't be able to offer much help in the way of understanding how someone can believe that there is nothing after life as my views are similar (although not exactly the same) as yours, so I do not get the belief that 'once you die you are dead' either.

You made your original post yesterday morning: Have you come any closer to understanding his viewpoint yet?
