I'm Currently Feeling: | Went onto website. Post Traumatic stress disorder is when an indiviudal has had a frightening ordeal or a extremly stressful event that was beyond there control. You find yourself re-living the event, again and again. This can happen both as a "flashback" in the day, and as nightmares when you are asleep. These can be so realistic that it feels as though you are living through the experience all over again
Ordinary things can trigger off flashbacks. For instance, if you had a car crash in the rain, a rainy day might start a flashback
The more disturbing the experience, the more likely you are to develop PTSD. The most traumatic events:
are sudden and unexpected
go on for a long time
you are trapped and can't get away
are man-made
cause many deaths
cause mutilation and loss of arms or legs
involve children.
Just as there are both physical and psychological aspects to PTSD, so there are both physical and psychological treatments for it. If you want me to look at the treatments for you let me know, hope this helps xxx |

I'm Currently Feeling: | thanks hun! that makes sence to me, he said it then went on to trying to do relaxation stuff.
he mentioned image therapy. which involves going over it with photos over again and again untill it no longer presents as a problem.
it sounded interesting he said it takes a really long time.
i didnt really feel comfy with him so im waiting for a lady doc to have a place.
thanks again | | | | Status: Offline

| PTSD is known more as something that soldiers go through but alot more 'civilians' are being diagnosed with it now.
A friend of mine suffers with PTSD, her son was very premature and the stress involved with that developed into PTSD. She was also recently diagnosed. What helped her along with treatment is writing down her emotions. Its hard to start it at first but when you get into it you cant stop writing.
Whether it is of any interest to you I can ask her if she will share her 'blog'. It may help you work your head round everything.
PTSD is not the end of the world and now that you have been diagnosed, there are things you can do to 'cure' it, or at least try and out your feelings!
Wish you all the best, and if ever you need a chat, please feel free to come to me. xxx | | | | Status: Offline
