I'm Currently Feeling: | What to help the environment with a one time deal? The other night I was watching the news and they aired a segment about this and some small thing we can all do to help.
One thing they suggested was putting 2 half gallon jars in the back of your toilet (upright) to help save water.... they fill up once and then just take up space so every time you flush your using one less gallon of water. Sounds pretty good to me, I can do it once and never have to think about it again and I'm always helping.
If everyone who reads this does it, thats like a thousand gallons in a day.
Just a thought, let me know if anyone is going to give it a try I'm interested to see how many people want to pitch in a hand. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Our house is on well and septic, so we go by the "if its yellow..let it mellow" mode...hahaha
plus we recycle everything...paper cans...all plastic bags wrappers..even my chocolatewrappers.
Reduce, reuse, recycle..... I do it all.
I want to use cloth diapers as well due to the fact that landfills are overflowing with disposibles.
HOW long does it take to toilet train babies/toddlers?? hahahaha | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | HAHA , I have no idea. Mines still to little. Some time before 3 I'm going to shoot for the 2 and a half mark or just asap.
Well thats good that you do all that, I really need to start doing something like that. Although I'm very proud of my jars in the toilet. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | the jars or I have also heard of bricks...are genious ( i am not much of one as I can't even spell it) haha.
It totally makes sense as it cuts water use in half. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | When we remodeled our house we put in low flow toilets, I think it uses .6 gallons per flush. There is hardly any water in the bowl after you flush, and it has two flushers, one for #1 and one for #2. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | We have a low-flow cistern but I think a brick is going in shortly anyway... we try to recycle but the council need to provide us with some boxes and bags...
Believe it or not, one of the biggest causes of greenhouse gases are cows. Yep, you heard me right - cows. Not only do they output more methane than anything else but if you added up the fields of corn + field to graze + milking area you'd discover that the total land cost is more than that of a cows output (milk + meat). Solution? Go veggie, stop buying cows milk, drink soya milk... or if you've just given birth - your own! OK, gross I know but environmentally friendly!
Did you also know that if we turned all our fields into corn instead of grazing for sheep there would be enough corn to help feed the third world?
Anywhere - there's my serious post for the day... |

I'm Currently Feeling: | We try really hard to recycle but our council don't make it very easy at all.
We have a green bin for all of our recyle stuff (apart from glass) and we can fill that up in about 2 weeks but it only gets collected once a month, so we end up throwing like 2 weeks worth of recycling stuff away every month. But we never fill our normal bin up for a month, and they get collected weekly.
Plus we don't have a car, so no easy access to take things to the recycling center, and the same with glass... we just end up throwing it away.
I think we will try the toilet thing as well lol Might do some good at least.

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yeah I wish we could do a little better on recycling, its just so hard because we live out in the middle of no where.... we have a place that takes cans and metals but the cans are a sticky mess and bugs love them.
We don't have a place for glass or plastics. Thats why I fell in love with the jar thing, its something I can do and never have to think about it again, and I'm saving at least 6 gallons a day.... and over a month that adds up and I'm just one person. I also by Rylee organic cloths and stuff.
I try to do my part. |
