Heathen!! It's brill! I love that you get to see things from Mary Boleyn's point of view when normally everyone focusses on Anne.

Joanne Dessy (I think it's her, need to check my bookshelf...) wrote a v.g book about Anne, really enjoyed it. I've always thought that Anne was remarkably forward thinking for a woman in her time - she was one of the first real feminists. She wanted women to have the chance to become educated, she invested in education and the arts, she was passionate about making religious works accessible to all classes, and she wanted to feed her own daughter (she lost out to Henry and his wet nurse)

'The Most Happy' - maybe not in the end...but certainly 'The Most Interesting' of his wives, imo. To think she was followed by Jane Seymour who I've struggled to find anything interesting about in any text. Her scandal seeking father and brothers, maybe, but Jane? No.

I would have loved to do this.
I think the way Anne Boleyn was treated was disgusting. A complete frame up. Even her jury of peers found it hard to believe, but if they didn't find her guilty, Henry would have executed them too! I have an absolute obsession with Anne and Elizabeth I (among other tudor period figures - I also love reading about Lady Jane Grey (who was not as innocent a party as people like to think) and Bess of Hardwick - a totally fasinating woman).
I find the 'historical novels' like The Other Boleyn Girl a bit too far fetched for my liking, and much prefer to read biographies. David Starkey's The Six Wives Of Henry VIII is VERY good.

Lady Jane Grey is another obsession of mine I find her interesting and yep not as innocent as we're led to believe

Anne was my favourite wife, just because she was so interesting, Jane Seymour bores the pants of me though

Oh YAY another Tudor history fan! I'm totally obsessed with that time period too.

I believe she was completely set up as well. Henry VIII wanted to marry Jane and didn't want another Queen claiming her rightful place like Catherine of Aragon did (and have another long drawn out battle). So, to save him the headache...... Also, AB wasn't really popular and after her last miscarriage, and with Henry's affection dwindling, her enemies were really able to move in on her. A conspiracy was then born!

I think it was huge paranoia on Henry's part - he'd seen through his own father's wranglings for the crown just how important succession was. Anne had provided him with everything except the one thing he desperately wanted and needed: a son. With England filled with warring nobles, all jostling for position, it's little wonder that they were primping their daughters and waving them under Henry's nose as the next producer of sons.

Anne was outstanding at her trial - but up against her former friend and supreme doctor of spin, Thomas Cromwell - she stood little chance. Her own Uncle (Norfolk) in his desperation to remain in the sun was similarly guilty of orchestrating her downfall.

Difference for me is that I think Thomas Cromwell has suffered at the hands of history, whereas Norfolk hasn't suffered anywhere NEAR as much as he should have! Awful man!
