uhhmmmm I personally wouldn't BF at 6, but if someone else wants to then thats their decision...I would be more concerned at the child getting bullied for it...

It's not true that breastfeeding has no nutritional value past six months...hence the WHO's recommendations to breastfeed up to 2 or longer.

I'm very pro-breastfeeding but I would *personally* draw a line at 6 for sure. I breastfed my son til he was a bit over 2 and that felt very natural for me and the weaning process was very natural and led by him. This seems ok to me, but 6 really doesn't. But I can only speak of what's right for me personally as the more I learn, the more I learn I don't know or understand everything, so my opinions have become a bit looser with regards to other people's choices. I would be concerned if it were forced in some way when the child was clearly ready to wean. Definitely and interesting focus on the subject.

I think I would be a bit freaked if I saw a 10 year old coming out of school lunch break to breastfeed, though, so my flexibility does have its limits still, LOL

I couldn't care less tbh. it's up to that parent to weigh up the physical benefits versus the psychological/cultural. It's nonsense that a child recieves no benefit past 6 months. A childs immune system is not fully matured until around six so I can see where someone might want to go to that extreme, but my own personal comfort zone would be around 3 I think. I think it would be less of a big deal, perhaps in an environment where the child wasn't entering nursery school/school and being around other children with very clearly defined norms which wouldn't include breastfeeding. A very rural or homeschool environment, for example might mean that negative psychological impact wouldn't tip the balance against the physical and psychological benefits of prolonged breastfeeding. I haven't read the article, I can't be bothered raising my BP with the Daily Hate this morning.
