I don't care. I know a friend of family had breastfeed her previous kids until about that age. and if it is their thing then let them do it I don't mind. Totally their business(She could not do it with her last because she had some infection or so at her nipple when he was about 1 year old)

i dont like the idea of bf a child of that age. im my mind its a case of if they can ask for it they are too old.

my brother went to school with brothers aged 6 and 10 and every break theyd meet their mum at the gate and shed bf them thru the gate! my mum whos for bf thought it was disgusting

I'm sure plenty of one year olds can ask for it, yet the World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding children until at least the age of two.

I was quite happy to feed Aaron until he self-weaned, which turned out to be at 15 months. Personally three or four is probably my limit though, six does seem a bit old.

i knew someone was going to pick up on that comment. the way a child of 6 communicates is very different from a 1 year old.

a quote from sex and the city about a mother bf her older child which i agree with "a women in there is breastfeeding her son who i saw eating steak....i think if he can ask for it hes probably too old" not word for word as ive forgotten but that was the gist

i must admit if i saw a mum nursing a 6 year old
in a cafe or something i'd be a little freaked out

hell not ....

If they both want to then YES. There is no evidence to suggest it harms the child or the mother physically or psychologically. At this age the child is not likely to ask very often and will probably soon lose the ability to latch correctly, so why make an issue of it?

No I don't think a child of 6 should be breastfed. In my opinion once a child starts nursery (3/4) they should no longer br BFed

i think every mother wants to do best by their child & so be it if they choose the decision to breastfeed longer than the norm there is not an age limit on when to stop! x

my little sister stayed on baby milk (formular) till she was 7 from a cup because she really enjoyed it still so my mum didnt see the harm. but having it in a cup is different from breast i no.
