Lousy substitutions from online food shopping--rant

We have just done a big monthly shop and gone for Asda as they have the 4 for 3 on frozen food offer on. We figured a good idea with baby due any day to stock up on ready meals so we don't have to cook. Ofc I carefully made sure my frozen stuff from the offer was in multiples of 4 and then just to ruin it whoever did the substitutes made a substitution of 1 item not from the offer. They did the same with the bread, substituted half of it with items not on a multi-save offer.

I know you can click no substitutes, but then we would still miss out on the offer as would be short of the multi-save. And if we didn't accept them at the door its the same deal.

It cost us £2 more because of substitutions. GRRRRRR!

It should have been substituted for something within the offer!! I would contact them and complain as what if you just had enough for everything you had ordered and then it went over and you got charged at the bank?

It is pretty pants they did that - BUT did it cost more than £2 to have it delivered? In which case maybe its just not worth taking the risk if you have a set budget?

They dont charge more for substitutions?? i thought if they couldnt offer what you ordered you still payed the same price??

Same happened when i shopped online with asda.. ordered some fresh chicken, they gave me more expensive stuff... total charged was the same as what i originally ordered x

When I shopped with Asda they would charge more if a substitution was more than what I originally asked for. It's stupid

The substitution as individual items cost less than the original item in this case. When they cost more they don't charge the difference.

In this case the frozen food was on offer in a buy 4 for the price of 3. So I had in my trolley 4 items at a £1 each, but only had to pay £3. When they substituted badly I had 3 items at £1 each and a 4th item at 77p adding to to a total of £3.77. And they didn't substitute up in quality, the item that was replaced was own brand fish cakes, replaced with smart price fish cakes! It was a similar multi-buy situation with the bread.

Delivery was free with an e-voucher, and it would have cost us £3 in a taxi if we had gone ourselves, so it is still cheaper. Plus we online shop as it stops us buying rubbish we don't need. I usually shop at Tesco online and we don't really seem to get any substitutions. It was only the 4for3 on frozen stuff that attracted us to Asda this week.
