private healthcare

has anyone bypassed the nhs and gone private to have their baby?

bizarre thought i know but although i had a relatively good experience when i had Lana (only met one devil midwife and that wasnt for delivery) i am still haunted by a very bad experience when having Jack - i know i was just lucky this time round, but i did have to suffer without gas and air a lot longer initially than i would have liked, which got me round to thinking if i went private would i get to have the various pain relief options to suit me?

If the reasons for you not having gas and air were medical then going private wont make much difference really.

We are sort of doing half and half at the minute but may yet go full private for what we hope will be a home birth.

Long story but we are not getting the quality of care on the NHS which is unfortunate.

I think antenatal care is better private (more scans and more appointments) but tbh i dont think the actual giving birth is all that different Maybe a bigger/nicer room and longer to stay in hospital but thats about it.

I didnt really need to because I live next to Hythe Birthing centre (where babies in the wood was filmed) It is NHS but it was lovely. I was the only person in there for 4 days after I had my son and had fabulous treatment

I will be giving birth with the NHS, even if I could afford to go private. I think we get a fabulous service most of the time, and where we don't it's important to complain and resolve the issues rather than 'jumping ship' - E.g, I don't get on with my midwife so I am swopping to another, lovely one. There are some excellent staff on the NHS and the majority try their very best. We are lucky in this country to have the choice of healthcare free at the point of use, I intend to use it!

Good luck to anyone, whatever they choose
