who would've thought a sandwich would be so eventful?!

who would've thought that going to the shop for bread, ham and tomatoes would be so eventful?

Well, I certainly didn't! That's for sure!

I nearly get ran over by a learner driver who loses control of the accelerator as the lights turn to red at the crossing.

Then I go into the supermarket, pick up tomatoes and go to get some ham....and the mat in the isle gets caught under my wheelchair, thus hurting me and so forth. 10 mins later and I'm free again.

They only have crappy mechanically reclaimed ham left, - as if I'm gonna eat that! So, I decide, 'enough is enough' and go down to Subway.

Well, the mario cart doesn't go into subway - there's a step. So, I wait hoping that someone will notice me, when a 15 year old charva girl who is either drunk on dodgy beer or smacked up asks me if I'm ok. I ask her if she's mind going into Subway and asking one of the people to come out and serve me....so she does...and has a full blown kick off with the staff!

Imagine a very charva-y geordie accent from a girl who is under the influence of something... "here, will ya came and F***ing serve this lady? She's been sat here for ages and you haven't served her. She's sat out here in a f***ing wheelchair and you f***ing lot haven't served her. I've been up and down this street 4 f***ing times while she's been waiting to be f***ing served" and so forth (I'd been there about 2 minutes! lol)

So, then a customer comes out and asks what I want.... I reply that I'd like to be served whilst sarcastically wondering if his questioning is an offer to pay for my order in some bizarre way

So, the staff all come outside for my order! Then told me that it's not on that they don't have access and to complain! (err what am I doing huni?!) Then one of them asks if my feet are cold cause I have no shoes on and this charva girl is still stood there trying to babysit me!

She goes away eventually and two guys come upto me (one of the members of staff is at the door talking to me) ad does his best "poor little cripple, are you ok?" impression asking if I'm ok etc obviously.

Finally get my sandwich....but not before one of the staff offers me their managers home number to call and kick off about lack of disabled access!

OMG! Most eventful sandwich I've had in a long time!

Heh - I sniggered a lot... I couldn't laugh out loud because Natasha and Anna are both snoring and farting (syncronised) beside me.

It reminds me a lot of cooking dinner one time... I was using my sticks that day but by god it was an effort and a half... I won't go into yesterday in London trying to find a disabled toilet in Covent Garden... thank goodness we had Anna strapped to my front most of the day so Natasha could help me across cobbles and onto buses!

To make you laugh... I used to have a local pub back in Wales... I used to wheel through, barging and shouting... and the land lady would look at me.. "what's the fuss, Dom?" she'd ask. "Walking people - they're behind me - make way for the walkers!" I'd yell back! Tee hee... or there was the time when I was sat on a stool by the bar and we'd left the chair in the car and I'd staggered in... she said "Hold up - where's yer chair?" I replied: "It's my day off today, back tomorra..."

Heh.

PS: you heard of the Boma wheelchair?

this one? I wanted an iBOT - til I saw how much they cost!

Do you get people trying to sit on your lap and other random numptiness when you're with your chair?

Honestly, this afternoon I thought I was in some bizarre comedy sketch with the 15yr old lass giving them lads in subway grief and the lad in subway trying to give me his gaffa's home number to complain. Very bizarre!

Thats the one Mynxie - used one at BGG last year and have wanted one ever since... the ibot looks good but the Boma goes off-road and on the beach and considering I live by the sea, it would be good - can get a trailer for it too.. the only down side is the turning circle.

No one ever really dares to try and sit on my knee.. I normally have Alexander, Alfie or Anna on my knee or if I'm off on my own I'm in a suit for work... and then if anyone dares try sit on my knee they'd quickly discover that someone screaming "HELP I'M BEING ASSULTED!" in their ear can not only deafen but hasten a free ride in a nee-naw car/van/truck/cycle.

The thing that hacks me off is people trying to push me without offering - it's effectively assult in my eyes. I'm managing fine on a ramp - if I wanted to go faster I'd hook a grabber on yer braces, mate!

I ditched the epioc (sorry - chair schlang for electrically powered indoor/outdoor chair) for the manual as I get about a lot quicker in the manual than I do in the electric, plus the work out and added advantage of hills!

I have a Quickie HP2 (Euro) now - not the UK edition 'cos that one sucked bottom... need to get some light-ups for it now.
