Effingham County, GA - Ten-month-old Aiden Waller is in critical condition with traumatic brain injuries, facial fractures and full-body bruising thanks to his parents, Tina Richards and Phillip Waller. Richards and Waller are in jail just five weeks after getting their son returned to them by Georgia’s Department of Family and Children Services. Yep, you heard me. This baby is ten months old and had already been removed and returned to the mother due to previous abuse.

Tina Richards was arrested in July 2007 on cruelty to children and battery charges. Police reports show that baby Aiden, who was then only a few months old, had a bruised eye and black and blue marks on both arms. Richards pled guilty in November 2007 to both charges. An Effingham County judge sentenced her to five years probation and $1350 in fines. So what does DCAFS do? They give the baby back. Yeah.

As Tina’s mother Kim Kellam says, ” “I said this is a mistake, she’s going to do it again, this is a big mistake and here we are five weeks later maybe and now he’s fighting for his life.”

According to Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, Richards was home alone with her son last Monday. At about 3:00 p.m., her neighbor saw her running in the yard holding Aiden. The neighbor ran over to help, but “by then the baby was in bad shape”. The neighbor called 911 and asked them to “hurry, because the baby is about to stop breathing”. According to news sources, Aiden’s gasps for air are audible on the 911 tape. He had dried blood in his nose and was unable to breathe unless held upright when paramedics arrived.

Richards told deputies she was holding her son in the shower when she slipped and fell and landed on the baby. The problem with that story is that the baby was dry. There’s also this: “We recovered a sheet with a onesie, you know what I am talking about the little things babies wear, sewn into a bed sheet. We found yarn which appeared to be used to strap the child’s legs and duct tape.” The duct tape is currently being tested, but authorities believe it was used to cover Aiden’s mouth to muffle his cries.

Kellam, Aiden’s grandmother, says, “”I love my daughter but I hate my daughter,” she said. “There’s no excuse for what she did and if I have anything to do with it she will never see that child again.” Kellam is actually the person who first reported the abuse last July, so good for her. She reports that both her daughter and Phillip Waller were abusing Aiden, and she couldn’t sit back and let it happen. Now, Kellam visits her grandson every morning and reports that his eyes are open and his brain swelling is going down. Aiden remains in critical condition.

Richards remained in Effingham County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, cruelty to a child in the first degree and cruelty to a child in the second degree. Waller was arrested yesterday and is being held on charges of cruelty to a child and obstruction of justice.

I should also mention that the boys mother was 7 monts pregnant with her second oy at the time of her arrest and has now give birth to him...

What the hell is wrong with people?!

That makes me soooooo angry!!
We have custody of my stepsons due to severe neglect and the social services reports of when the boys were discovered make you cry.
I dont know how people can have kids then treat them like this!

I can't believe that the social services returnes the boy to his parents after the first time this was discovered!Are they satisified now that the poor little boy is in a hospital?

As for the bloody care system another case of fucking up kids lives when they could have saved them from more pain or even death!
