We have mitsubishi grandis, good sized forward facing seats, looks like a big estate car, not like a box.

I love driving it, handles well, and with the back seats up (and they are proper comfy seats, there is still boot space. What put us off a lot of people carries was that the second row of seats took up all the bot space and the kids were virtually up against the back window.

i know you said you dont like ppl carriers but weve got an 8 seater toyota previa and it is perfect. tons of room and easy to get all the car seats in. its also v comfy and lovely to drive as its mid-engine so it feels no heavier than an average sized car, i prefer driving it to the fiesta i had my lessons in
