Oh FFS. Help with returning something..

I'm so annoyed.
I bought OH DJ Hero off play.com in november and gave it to him for christmas.
He's played it since christmas and now tells me that its "broken". That one or 2 of the buttons arent working. I'm really p*ssed off because he sat there moaning and moaning about it.
But what can I do???
Play.com only accepts returns up to 28 days after purchase. What do I do now?? If its totally fucked then that was a waste of £100

The 28 days would generally only apply if it was an unwanted gift; if it's faulty you have something like a year to return it. Definitely contact them and stress that it's faulty- they should offer replacement at the very least. Good luck!

Agrees - fault items you can usually return for longer!

They will have to accept it back. I remember wathcing that money guy on Gm:TV a few months back and he was saying about reasonable lenght of time for something working. Don't remember the details but you definately have something to do on.

Drop them an email

I'm afraid that Play.com don't cover items for a year like other places do - I found this out after I had a faulty item myself Apparantly, this is something to do with the fact that they're based in Jersey (not UK) and therefore don't have to follow the normal UK law?? As found in clause 32 of their T&Cs:

"Every purchase you make shall be deemed performed in Jersey. Jersey law shall govern every aspect of contractual agreement concerning purchases made from the Site. "

I'd still say its worth a try giving them a call, but if not then go to the manufacturer with your proof of purcahase because they should guarantee it for a year.

If you paid by credit card you might qualify for additional protection?

If its for xbox then get onto Microsoft about it if they made it - they're really good with problems usually. My OH has had to return his xbox a few times as he got the ring of death and they pay for it to be collected and sent to Germany then they either fix it or replace it. Worth a try with the DJ Hero xxx

Even if it is for xbox, Microsoft aren't the manufacturer so I don't think they'll do anything as its not their legal responsibility either? I think Activision are the manufacturers?

EDIT: Just read the rest of the Play.com T&Cs and it does state:

"All electrical products are covered by a twelve month manufacturer's warranty. If your product develops a fault while under warranty, please contact Play.com and we will advise you where to send it for repair. It is a "return to base" warranty therefore there will be a delivery charge to return the product back to the relevant UK service centre."

So, you should be covered by the manufacturer and it sounds like play.com's service centre will be able to tell you where to send your product for a repair which, I suppose, is better than nothing even if it is a little inconvenient

Let us know how you get on x
