Electric Cars

Will anybody be getting one of these when they come out? What do you think to them?

Several will be coming out over the year and im interested to see if people would actually drive them or not, physically and performance wise they'd be no different to any other car

Do you have to plug them in at night? I'd forget!

Well the basic jist is that they run off of several batteries across the car supporting the different systems, the batteries you dont actually own, you lease them through a contract with the manufacturer, then when one of your batteries runs out they just replace it and put a fresh one on for you, the batteries are worth a few thousand each

They then get recharged by the manufacturers, they last a long times though

I think they are pretty cool and good for the enviroment OFC, id have one as long as looks and performance wernt affected,

Sounds complicated lol.
So how long is the battery expected to last?
And when it goes you just have to buy a new one? For thousands of pounds?
At least they will be better for the environment x

Honestly? No!

I am too much of a car fan and I just can not see how I could get the same feel and drive in one of these as I could in the Imprezza or Porker.....

Everyone has their vice and mines is my wheels!

Depends on how much the car itself is and how much the lease for the batteries costs...

If the battery leases are less expensive than gas costs I'd go electric definitely.

But what if your battery dies if you are driving somewhere hours away from home... you're kinda stuck then? I know you can get stuck in a regular car but there's a repair shop in every town iykwim

It wouldnt die completely unless all 6 or 7 batteries went iykwim as there would be enough power across the remaining ones to keep the car going

Once you lease the batteries that contract covers all replacement batteries for the length of the contract, you wouldnt have to buy anymore.

So if you think 0 fuel ... 0 road tax ... ok i dont know exactley how much the lease is but im betting its cheaper than your annual fuel and tax bill.

I bet the goverment are going to offer big incentives to try and get people to have them.

OH says they are pretty awesome, he's driven one already and had his training, i cant wait for my turn now i want to see if they are as close to a "real" car as they make out

Nope, no way, no chance, nada!
Battery life is far to small - most only last 200 miles tops and I frequently travel 400 miles plus in one go. Where do you refill the battry if on the move? There's not regular petrol stations up and down the country I've heard of that do electric top ups plus it takes a couple of hours at least - most cars need overnight charging to refil the battery for another 200 miles.

Plus - I'm a petrolhead! I couldn't live without the rumble of a V6 or V8! Its just not the same to me if you can't hear internal combustion....

I'm not against electric cars, I love the Lightning GT- sub 5sec to 60 and looks beautiful but costs an awfy lot and battery life is still under 200miles per charge. (Not that I'll ever be rich enough to buy one! lol)

Batteries need to improve before electric cars become a viable option for me. I'd have to be mega impressed to let go of my petrol cars and part money for an electric one!
