I hate housing associations!

I don't know what to do!
We got up this morning to a house so hot I honestly thought it was on fire. It turns out that our central heating is stuck on the highest setting and we're having to wait for our housing association to come and fix it who have told us it isn't classed as an emergency so they won't even look at the problem until Monday (6 days away!!)

Anyway, in the mean time what would be best?
If I turn the boiler off it means we have no hot water and the house gets very cold (I have a 10 week old and a 2 year old)
If I leave it on, we're all roasting even with the windows open and there are massive drafts from the windows (as it's freeeezing outside) plus it's causing the boiler to repeatedly overheat and shut itself down, then start back up 10 minutes later (I dread our gas bill!)

What would you do?

Do you not have thermostats on your radiators?

So you either have to freeze, or boil. Nice!

Surely the housing association should pay the extra money you'll be forking out for that? I hope my housing association aren't like that if I ever have problems...what housing association are you with??

Thats not good.
If they are leaving you that long i would have thought theyd pay the extra cost towards your heating.
My gas was turned off the yr before last as when they fitted new windows they didnt put the vents in that were needed for the boiler i had. My housing association paid for the extra electric i used as i had to use the electric immersion for hot water.
But they only did it as i kicked up a stink at the extra money i had to pay out.
Hope they sort it quick for you xx

I can turn them down or off on all but the lounge/diner/kitchen (it's open plan)
These are controlled by the thermostat digi thing on the wall which has crashed and we can't change.

Swan housing. It's not actually their fault though; as the place is still under warranty (it's less than a year old) they're not allowed to do any work on it, they have to refer it to the contractor (Countryside Properties) and they won't look at it until Jan 4th at the earliest. We've not had any hot water in our kitchen since November and we're STILL waiting for them to fix that (washing up in the bath is not fun!)

Their suggestion is to turn off the boiler and turn it on when we need it for water. Which is great.. except it means we have no heating! Or to just 'open a window'. We have all of the windows open at the moment and it's 26 degrees in here and soo stuffy!

I woulkd turn it off and get some electric heaters in for a temp use. As for the water thing, that can be a problem, my flat had no hot water for 10days once. I relied on my parents so kids could have a bath but it was not as bad as I thought. Hope it gets sorted x
